Scams and Predators

Scams such as the Canadian Lottery and other types of predatory schemes are a growing. Problems arise with older adults who live at home and receive solicitations in the mail. Others seniors may be preyed upon by a relative or friend who manages to receive a gift or other advantage through devious means.

The circumstances may involve isolating the senior from other loved ones or long-time friends. Sometimes the objective is to marry the elder. Other family members may be unable to prevent the abuse. Occasionally, because of advanced age or loss of judgment and insight, an older person may not be able to resist. In this type of circumstance, a Court Conservatorship may be the only way to protect the conservatee's estate.
